Paediatric First aid Course Description

The EDI Level 2 Certificate in First Aid for those Caring for Children focuses on the first aid knowledge and skills relevant for those caring for babies and young children under the age of 8. Learners will gain an understanding of how to recognise and respond appropriately to children’s accidents, illnesses and potential risks. This qualification also aims to develop the skills and knowledge of those wishing to seek employment in the childcare sector, or who are
studying other childcare programmes.

How will I be assessed for the Paediatric First aid course?
Multiple choice test and an internal assessment.

What standards do I need in order to join the Paediatric First aid course?
You must:
Be able to read and communicate clearly and accurately enough to meet the requirements of the training, NOT have a criminal record which might prevent you from working with children/young people or vulnerable adults.

What will I study?

Course Description

This First aid course is ideal for anyone and leads to a recognised qualification that has to be renewed every three years. This qualification is ideal for people who work in smaller workplaces that present fewer health and safety risks, where a nominated person is required to take charge in the event of an illness or accident or for a person who works within a large organisation who is responsible for a small group of people or area and provide support to qualified first aiders. The course includes incidents, accidents and injuries commonly occurring in a variety of businesses such as burns, scalds, slips, trips, allergies etc.

Award in Emergency First Aid

How will I be assessed for the First Aid course?
All candidates are continually assessed by the trainer during the course and all successful candidates will be awarded an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate which lasts for a period of 3 years, along with a wallet sized plastic card detailing their qualifications.

The Legal Requirement
Employers have a legal obligation under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and Approved Code of Practice (ACOP L74) to ensure there is sufficient First Aid Provision for their employees. There should be someone to undertake First Aid duties at all times when people are at work.
Our Emergency First Aid at Work is a Health & Safety Executive recognised course which fully complies with Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) L74 guidelines for the qualification of workplace First Aiders.

Course Information
Two Days Training and another Day for individual assessment, which will be negotiated with the First Aid Assessor. 

Trainees will receive training in these First Aid at Work (FAW) competencies:

  • Aims and Rules of First Aid at Work (FAW)
  • Basic Life Support
  • Treatment of the unconscious casualty
  • Treatment of a casualty who is wounded, bleeding or shocked
  • Treatment of fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries
  • Treatment of burns, poisoning and eye injuries
  • Treatment of common major and minor illnesses
  • Prevention of cross-infection during First Aid at Work (FAW) procedures
  • Emergency transport of casualties
  • Legal aspects of First Aid at Work (FAW)


After successful completion of the taught course, final practical assessment and an exam, the student will be awarded the HSE recognised, First Aid at Work (FAW) Certificate which is valid for 3 years.
A First Aid at Work (FAW) qualification will make a positive contribution to the safety of your workplace. After qualifying in First Aid at Work (FAW) you'll have the essential skills to handle any First Aid situation, from minor slips and trips to the most serious of incidents.
