ESOL Classes at The Adult Learning Academy
The aim of the course is to help people who are currently unemployed to build confidence and linguistic abilities in order to move into employment after completing the course. Apart from general English language skills, the course also incorporates employability skills training such as CV writing, job search, making phone calls, application and interview techniques.
There are ten students in the group and most of them are highly motivated, dutiful and hard-working. My students seem to be happy with the classes – they especially appreciate pronunciation drills, both choral and individual, thanks to which they dramatically improved their pronunciation and intonation. They have also become more fluent at speaking and have expanded their vocabulary.
We are mainly using New Total English Student’s Book (Mark Foley and Diane Hall, Pearson, 2014), complemented with realia, ESL-related websites and worksheets from various teaching resources e.g. Elementary Grammar Games (Jill Hadfield, Longman, 2002)
